City Sonic NXNE party June 17 at the Drake
June 5, 2009June 17 is the kick-off to this year’s NorthbyNorthEast music and film festival here in Toronto and we couldn’t let the opportunity pass by to introduce the city’s most passionate new music lovers to City Sonic. That very night, Wednesday June 17, we’ll take over the Drake Hotel with three floors of live music, film preview screenings, great DJs and more.
First off, we’re proud to present live performances by Lioness and Woodhands — two awesome Toronto acts who will be featured in upcoming City Sonic films. Plus! We’ve got an actual Fox News Correspondent — Damian from Fucked Up — spinning some of that rare punk rock vinyl he hoards. Additional performers The D’urbervilles and JJ Ispen plus DJs Famous Players, Geoff Snack, and Tricky Carrera will keep this shin-dig going all night. (Well, ’til 4a.m. + standing on the sidewalk doing Boyz II Men a cappella afterwards til the sun comes up is pretty much all night isn’t it?)
Oh, and of course this is where you’ll get the first opportunity to preview five more City Sonic films: thanks to the glorious Drake A/V set up we can screen for you short documentaries starring Brian Borcherdt of Holy Fuck, Justin Rutledge, Tyler Stewart from the Barenaked Ladies, Danko Jones and that Cancer Bats video you can already click on below. One of City Sonic’s most exciting challenges is to produce films that work perfectly on mobile phones (no, I will not call them “devices”, they are not tricorders yet) and look beautiful on the big screen We think our filmmakers have done a marvelous job.
