Three City Sonic Toronto Bands in the Polaris Prize Long List
July 6, 2009Tomorrow morning, July 7, the Polaris Music Prize will announce the 10 Canadian albums shortlisted for this year’s $20,000 award. This is truly exciting news: and I don’t just say that because I’m part of the Polaris organization (as a Board member, which means I don’t get to vote but I do get to cheer.) It’s because when you look at the Long List of 40 albums released a few weeks back, there are three exceptional City Sonic artists in the running: D-sisive, Fucked Up and Great Lake Swimmers. And while I can’t say yet who will be on the Short List, or who I want to be on the Short List, or anything of the sort, I can wish these three very different but equally worthy candidates congratulations on their recognitions thus far. And then I can tell the rest of you to tune into CBC Radio 3 tomorrow for full coverage of the Short List announcement, live from the Drake Hotel.
