Get outside: Summerworks festival — Now with more music!

August 7, 2009

When we’re not making movies, we go to gigs. All kinds of gigs — club shows, outdoor festivals, secret basement bashes. And we think you should too. Each week, we’ll pick an exciting Toronto music event or two that’s on our radar to highlight here. Not just because we like telling people where to go — although that’s fun — but because City Sonic knows that history is always happening and if you want to say “I was there!” one day in the future you have to have been there now.

This weekend until August 16, Toronto’s theatre and arts festival Summerworks presents a series of music performances at the beautiful Theatre Centre at 1087 Queen Street West at Dovercourt. Even if you’ve not yet heard of the critical darlings on the program (highlighted by much ballyhooed Arts & Crafts signing Still Life Still with queer electropunk pranksters Kids on TV Sunday August 9) the space itself is magical and not too often used for live music so don’t miss the opportunity for a night of discovery. City history buffs also take note of Summerwalks — guided tours of Queen Street West.
