Get Outside: Colin Munro leads a free hip-hop Manifesto this Sunday

September 18, 2009

We’re in the final sleep-deprived hours of that film festival you may have heard of that tends to black-out our city’s entire cultural calendar but there’s a significant non-George Clooney festival happening this weekend too. Manifesto is a full-on hip-hop extravaganza showcasing emerging local talent in music, fashion, dance, art and spoken word, capped with a massive free concert this Sunday at Nathan Phillips Square. And one relative newcomer we’re particularly interested in new Motown signee Colin Munroe. The singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist is already an internet sensation thanks to his Kanye-approved video “I Want Those Flashing Lights”. and a buzz on the streets with his mixed tapes. We’re in production with Colin and director George Vale on a City Sonic film and heard a rumour his set Sunday night may include a special appearance from a Toronto A-list rapper. Catch Colin here now before he blows up large. Plus, after all those hours spent in darkened cinemas, it’s time for some vitamin D.
