R.I.P. 2009!
December 27, 2009As the last year of this decade winds to a close, the team behind City Sonic would like to thank you for being part of our inaugural year. Producing and premiering the 20 films about Toronto’s music history is just a beginning, and we are already looking forward to 2010. Stay tuned for more development hoopla surrounding our mobile phone application, which will allow you to experience City Sonic on the streets. We’ll be partnering with exciting music events and offering more contest opportunities too.
It’s been a particularly interesting year to be documenting the venues where our local music scene lives: several notable music spots have made big announcements. Shortly after shooting there with Cancer Bats earlier in 2009, the Adrift Clubhouse shut its doors. Last month, it was reported that the Cameron House is up for sale, followed by news that the Big Bop (aka Reverb/Kathedral) is closing at the end of January 2010. But ch-ch-ch-changes can be for the better: Maple Leaf Gardens is set to re-open after a decade of dormancy, as a supermarket-Ryerson rink hybrid. And new hot spots are blooming all the time — witness the Garrisson, addition to the Dundas/Ossington hipster prefecture and new home for the Wavelength series. That’s where you’ll find us hanging out in February when they celebrate Wavelength’s 10th Anniversary. See you next year!
