Dan and Paul inside the abandoned Brick Works trying to remember how it all went down

The folks who put on Toronto’s guerilla art and music events know that you don’t ask for access to abandoned spaces, you just explore. With a film crew, it’s not so easy. Especially when the site in question is under construction and under the watch of a city agency. And finding archival footage of an event which took place under almost complete darkness wasn’t any easier. But the Woodhands guys were game for a little more experimenting. Fireworks ensued….

Sometimes the most legendary music nights happen in unexpected places, in oddball spaces that seem unreal in the light of day. The Toronto synthpop duo Woodhands found themselves in the middle of a secret show – not the “guess what major label band is playing this club sponsored by beer company X” kind, either – but the Don Valley Brickworks kind that was as dangerous as it was extraordinary. Since Woodhands Dan Werb and Paul Banwatt are two wild and crazy guys, we knew they’d be the perfect guides into this underworld.
