Hey, welcome to City Sonic, from production HQ to you. Liisa Ladouceur here – lead researcher for this film series.
All the year long, I’ve been scouring the myths and legends of Toronto music history to unearth the 20 great artists and stories our filmmakers will be bringing to life for you. It’s a fascinating mission but one that has kept all our heads down in research and production for a while. But no longer! While we continue to create more films for our upcoming launch we’ll be using this space to provide glimpses into the process, sneak previews of films and special events and get your feedback. We may even ask for your help. (So make sure to come back — in case I need you, alright?)
We’d like to kick things off by presenting to you the first City Sonic short film: Cancer Bats at the Adrift Clubhouse, directed by Bruce McDonald (of Hardcore Logo and Pontypool fame). To be honest, I’d never even heard of this place until the band took Bruce there in the depths of winter to talk about its importance. But I hear it might have already shut its doors, drifting (groan?) back into legend status. So for those who loved it and those who will never get the chance, let City Sonic take you inside. More soon. –LL
